There was a time when you and I were together forever Never separated, we anticipated the needs of our lives We synthesized our needs when we felt synergy But then it all fell apart And now we’re a spectrum of hybrids Spectrum of hybrids Spectrum of hybrids, ooh Spectrum of hybrids Life, death, you, me Trip to the beach and then on home, you gotta find a way, (find a way) To reveal yourself to those who matter most in the best possible way I know it’s hard, I know it’s right, you gotta find the best solution The clock tick tocks on and on And now we’re a spectrum of hybrids Spectrum of hybrids Spectrum of hybrids, ooh Spectrum of hybrids Hybrids Hybrids Hybrids, ooh Hybrids

Dear Mom, this one’s for you For so long love has been due I can’t change time but I sure can blur lines And kick and scream fine while to heaven you climb If I could strike a deal up with the devil I’d go way back and I’d make life more level All those bad times, I’d make ‘em more tangible Eliminate them all ‘cause life is too full Get over myself, make fewer commitments Break those bad habits and learn when to take hints Fight fewer battles, be not ashamed to sob Make a point to not lie and don’t fall for heartthrobs If I could strike a deal up with the devil I’d go way back and I’d make life more level All those bad times, I’d make ‘em more tangible Eliminate them all ‘cause life is too full Na na na… Tick tock, tick tock… I’d take ‘em all, shirk their time along with them In Pandora’s Box, a microsecond of mayhem All that would remain would be more time for you If I could undo Maybe it’d change who I am as a person But it’d be worth it to not be on the run You made time for me, I made no time for you Life gives us cancer and love lets us renew I’d get over myself, make fewer commitments Break those bad habits and learn when to take hints Fight fewer battles, be not ashamed to sob Make a point to not lie and don’t fall for heartthrobs I’d take ‘em all, shirk their time along with them In Pandora’s Box, a microsecond of mayhem All that would remain would be more time for you If I could undo Na na na… Tick tock, tick tock…

Took him to the mall, but it wasn’t far The waves crash beyond the surface of the coastline We stepped outside, and I felt for once free I’m gonna have a good time whatever that may be We’re going passion surfing, passion surfing, down the boulevard I’m going passion surfing, passion surfing, to save my heart Pacific breeze blows on my head A stroll along the beach my thoughts instead Alone, at last, I can destress I left a single message, it said P.S. We’re going passion surfing, passion surfing, down the boulevard I’m going passion surfing, passion surfing, to save my heart (Here I am alone at last)

This stage I'm on Up here against my will Above the crowd They see me for what I am My thoughts laid bare for all to see The one behind what's inside of me Can't you just let me be A mask for living Above the one beneath the skull A mask for living My face uncovered for you all Up here alone I must overcome my fears I know my heart Is on display despite me My life, my fears are here for you To reach out and touch my anxiety Maybe then you'll see A mask for living Above the one beneath the skull A mask for living My face uncovered for you all I'm tired of locking away my heart I'm tired of locking away myself I let myself go and believe in the truth I'm tired of walking away from you A mask for living Above the one beneath the skull A mask for living My face uncovered for you all A mask for living Above the one beneath the skull A mask for living My face uncovered for you all

Well you’re worth nothing Not even a smile People come up to you But don’t stay a while You felt alone with Just your empty thoughts Oh no Breaking through the hurt Is the hardest part of all But deep down inside You know you’re worth it And when you make it through There’s nothing quite the same As now Feeling loved somehow Because you’re worth it Oh, you’re worth it And I am worth it Oh, I keep saying this to myself Oh, you’re worth it And I am worth it You’re not alone You’re not alone Making peace with the past Is the only way to go And now that I’m here Love is something that I know I’ve come around to find the love That everyone has deep down Feeling loved somehow Because you’re worth it Oh, you’re worth it And I am worth it Oh, I keep saying this to myself Oh, you’re worth it And I am worth it You’re not alone You’re not alone Where can you find bruised egos With busted hearts on every corner I ain’t got the tears or the time to be A groaner or a mourner When will it be that some find their path It’s not always But we can hope Oh, we can hope Because we're worth it Oh, you’re worth it And I am worth it Oh, I keep on calling to myself Because I'm worth it And you are worth it We’re not alone We're not alone

about

I'm super honored that I was asked by Teh to work on the soundtrack for Spectrum of Hybrids. I'm especially excited to have been able to write and record some vocal tracks for a video game soundtrack, particularly one being developed by an old friend. I'm excited that I was able to combine my love for genres such as jangle pop and prog rock into a single album of music. I even managed to squeeze a low whistle in there.

My inner musicologist maintains that songs must contain the human voice as an instrument, and I feel like it is so rare to be able to put the word "songs" in the title of an album of video game music. To be fair, only the first five tracks are indeed songs, but as they are the focus of this release, I felt it would be appropriate to exclude a clarifying phrase such as "and some incidental music" for simplicity's sake. Moreover, I feel like this album's designation of "songs" will also highlight the fact that there is another part of the soundtrack composed by Bismii.

Speaking of the human voice, I'm very happy to once again be recording with singer Darby Cupit who sings the lead vocal parts on Microsecond of Mayhem and I Am Worth It. As these are songs that are sung by in-game characters, it was only appropriate to include another singer on this album for variety. As both a singer and a voice actor, Darby brings a real sense of life and energy to both of these songs. I am grateful to have Darby in my life as both a collaborator and a friend. Thank you again for recording for this project!

I sincerely hope that you enjoy this soundtrack, and I look forward to releasing Part 2 of this album in the future as the story and characters of Spectrum of Hybrids evolve.

Teh has this to say about Spectrum of Hybrids: "Spectrum of Hybrids is a labor of love that has been ongoing for five years, changing and adapting to its final form as a detailed Visual Novel. It would not be possible without the talents of several wonderful artists both visual and musical, nor without the input from its fans. Audio is just as big a part of the game as visuals are, and every effort is made to match the music with the moods, scenes, and characters. Thank you for your support!"
